The Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS) is calling on the Ministry of Transport through the Transport Authority to help reduce the indiscipline in the Public Transport Sector by making it mandatory for bus and hackney carriage to be part of a local transport groups.
In a release, TODSS said most of the indiscipline in the Public Transport sector are cause by operators who are not associated with any local transport groups and does not have to do base not the present structure of the Transport Authority.
They added that if a bus or taxi operator is able to get a stage or contract license directly from government without any local background or group verification, then such operator can do anything and local leaders have no control over them and there can’t be any local penalties if they break any regulations or standards of the sector.
Transport organizations cannot continue to take the blame for the indiscipline of a wide range of operators that we have no control over, if we are going to see any improvement in the sector then it must be mandatory for all public transport operators to be of an association.
If it is mandatory for route taxies to be part of an association so should be the bus and hackney carriage as also contract carriage.
As it stands we can only encourage operators today the rules and regulation of the Transport Authority, our hands are tied to take action.
