Senator Matthew Samuda Appointed To The Cabinet

Senator Matthew Samuda has been appointed Minister without Portfolio and assigned to the Ministry of National Security.

His appointment fulfills the constitutional provision for a minimum of 2 Cabinet ministers from the Upper House. Also follows resignation of Pearnel Charles Jr, who is now the JLP candidate for South East Clarendon.

He was sworn on Monday by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen.

Senator Samuda is now the youngest member of the cabinet.

Following his swearing in Senator Samuda said he promised to bring vigour and hard work to his freshly assigned role as minister without portfolio assigned to the Ministry of National Security, one of the toughest ministries in the Andrew Holness-led Cabinet.
