House Speaker Pearnel Charles Snr. yesterday announced in Parliament that Clarendon South East Member of Parliament Ruddy Spencer has resigned with immediate effect.
Spencer has been the Jamaica Labour Party(JLP) MP for Clarendon South East since. He was also the Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security.
During the sitting of the House yesterday JLP General Secretary Dr Horace Chang, says the Government would be moving to fill the seat “soon” so that the people there are not “left alone”.
With the announcement of his resignation, several members of Parliament paid tribute to him during the Parliamentary Session.
Energy Minister Fayval Williams in her tribute said it was a tough decision for Spencer, but he did it with poise and dignity and for that, they can all learn a lesson.
Resigned MP Ruddy Spencer said he was not forced out of the seat. He says he believes the time has come for him to move on and he will tell his disgruntled constituents on Thursday when he meets with them.
