Despite the Opposition’s acceptance of the resignation of Ruel Reid as Minister and Senator; the Youth Arm of the Peoples National Party, PNPYO is calling on Minister Reid to Step down as Principal of Jamaica College, and further as a Justice of the Peace.
In a release on Thursday, the PNPYO said it is demanding that Ruel Reid steps down as Principal of Jamaica College and not be allowed to serve on any State Boards in the near future.
PNPYO said his prolonged secondment was already improper and to keep him in this position of leadership sends the wrong message to the students who would be under his influence and guidance.
The organization said they are further requesting the Custos of St. Andrew, DR. Patricia Dunwell to review this matter to determine whether Mr. Reid could rightly continue to hold the office of Justice of the Peace (JP).
The PNPYO added that the Ministry of Justice requires that a JP be a person of unquestionable integrity and who commands the respect and confidence of the local community.
The organization said it believes that the Prime Minister’s loss of confidence in Ruel Reid to continue his tenure as Minister and Senator is a clear indication that he is no longer suited to bear the seal of such an office as Justice of the Peace.
This actions and developments came to light following the Opposition call by Dr. Peter Phillips, to investigate Mr. Reid’s stewardship over corrupt practices at the Ministry.
