With Christmas just a week away, over 40 persons were on Saturday, left homeless after fire gutted 28 dwellings in the Bell Rock community in St Andrew.
Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for the constituency Andrew Holness who visited the area on Saturday, committed to assisting the person affected with supplies and promised that they will be receiving new housing solutions under a programme that was approved recently.
One resident who was affected by the fire said the extent of the damage could have been avoided if the fire truck had water. The resident said the Fire Department responded however they had no water, the hydrant that was close was also without water.
He said because the truck had to leave to get water, the house that was on fire affected the rest of the homes that were in the yard. The resident added that if the fire truck had water the other homes would be spared.
Two week ago fire also destroyed some 10 homes in the Bell Rock community where one man died in that instance.
