The Opposition People’s National Party (PNP), is today making their stance known that despite the appointment of Fayval Williams as the new Energy Minister, the party will not deter from uprooting the cause of Mismanagement and corruption at the state owned oil Refinery Petrojam.
In a statement yesterday Dr. Peter Phillips says the Opposition has taken note of the appointment of a new Minister of Science, Energy and Technology by the Prime Minister to oversee the important energy portfolio. Adding that, since the resignation of former Minister, Dr. Andrew Wheatley, he had consistently pointed to the need to appoint a fulltime Minister of Energy.
Dr Phillips said it was unfortunate that after eight months, it took the further deepening of the Petrojam scandal for the Prime Minister to come to the realization of his inability to provide effective oversight and so appoint a Minister of Science, Energy and Technology.
In 2018, Prime Minister Andrew Holness temporarily took over responsibility of the Energy portfolio following damning revelations that there was gross mismanagement at Petrojam and NeSol. This resulted in the resignation of Dr Andrew Wheatley, the general manager of Petrojam Gridley and the general Manager of NeSOL Caroline . The Saga was deepened with more revelations of nepotism, corruption and breaches of public sector policies in the Auditor General’s report.
