Former National Security Minister and Trade Unionist, Dwight Nelson passed away at his home earlier today after ailing for some time. He was 72 years old.
In a statement online Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the country now mourns that passing of our beloved brother and friend Dwight Nelson adding that he dedicated his life to the people of Jamaica.
Holness said Nelson was his Chief of Staff while he was the Leader of the Opposition, and a true friend who was always willing to give of himself in the service of his country.
Nelson served as a Senior Vice President at the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union and in government as a Senator and a Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service.
The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the Prime Minister both expressed their condolences to his family in the time of their grief.
