Following Multiple power outages across Kingston, St Andrew and St Thomas, Minister of Science, Energy and Technology, Fayval Williams is urging dialogue between the JPS, its employees and the Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE) to settle wage and fringe benefit negotiations.
On Tuesday sections of Kingston and St Andrew and St Thomas experienced a number of outages due to industrial action stemming from a breakdown in the negotiations at the Ministry of Labour.
In a Statement Williams said electricity is an essential service and as such the matter is being closely monitored by the ministry, she urged the parties to “get to a speedy settlement in the best interest of all stakeholders”.
JPS said it is investigating the cause of the power outages and has activated its contingency plans in order to minimise disruption in service to customers.
The power company said electricity has been restored in most of the affected area across Kingston.
